PROUD TO BE INDIAN
Arun Bikash Ghosh is a polymath with deep interests in medicine, surgery, Bengali literature, comparative religion, art, and education. His varied concerns have channeled his life towards working for the poor. He spent a childhood in what is now Bangladesh, his youth in Bihar, his years as a young doctor in Wales, and returned to roost in India where he built a surgical practice catering to the people of North Delhi. He spent a vast chunk of his life bringing up three children and is reasonably happy with the way they have turned out. Though he has often said, only half in jest, "The more I know my children, the more I love my dog!"
After a serious episode of retinal detachment around 1996, ABG was encouraged to record the story of his life while he recuperated from the operation. Before he knew it, he was hooked. He turned to his first love, the arts, and began to sketch and paint furiously, write poems, and transcribe his memoirs. He has since self-published three books of poems in his mother-tongue, Bangla, a play about the life of Subhash Chandra Bose in Bangla and Hindi, and is currently writing a treatise on Swami Vivekananda, a sage who has had a profound influence him. His wife, Tripta, has been his main source of strength and has given him the space within which to operate. In 2006, after surviving a triple bypass procedure, ABG returned reinvigorated to his numerous passions. His only complaint is thatthere are not enough hours in the day!
In May 2014, "Mahaan Vyaktitva jin per humain garv hai - Proud to be Indian", a book written by Professor Saksena, featuring portraits of famous Indians sketched by Dr. Ghosh, was launched at The School of Oriental & African Studies(SOAS) London, UK. click to watch a video of the book launch
